 Dear Sir,

I write on behalf of the members of Pontrobert Women’s Institute to gain your active support in the fight against the proposal to erect enormous pylons and yet more wind farms in Montgomeryshire. We object to this proposal for three main reasons:

1.  The scale of the problem.  In a county widely known for its soft gentle rolling hills the pylons and wind turbines will dominate the rural landscape. The landscape to be desecrated is to be some 750 square kilometres. In addition the pylons will be two and a half times the height of Meifod church tower in the beautiful Meifod valley.  This will clearly be an environmental disaster.

2. The economy. The main economy of this area is agriculture. Economic diversity is a necessity here and for the majority of farmers this means looking to tourism with solutions such as holiday cottages and bed and breakfast. But who will want to stay in an area dominated by these monstrosities?

3. The county infrastructure. What damage will be done to the county infrastructure for five long years as the monstrous pantechnicons haul in the turbines and pylons clogging up the holiday traffic and damaging roads and buildings alike? How will local businesses survive with these extra impediments when their livelihoods are so precarious now?

We ask for your active commitment to help prevent this major disaster overtaking our much loved county.
